Macro is a simple calorie and protein tracker made by an independent developer (mostlywork.ing). This policy explains, plainly, what happens to your data.
The short version
Macro doesn't have a server, doesn't run analytics, doesn't show ads, and doesn't ask you to create an account. Everything you log stays on your device and, if you turn on iCloud sync, in your own private iCloud account — never on our servers, because we don't have any.
What Macro stores
- The meals you log: calories, protein, and (if you turn tracking on) carbs, fat, and fibre, along with the label (Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner, Snack) and time you logged them.
- Your daily goals and app preferences (e.g. which macros you track, when your day starts).
- If you turn on meal reminders, the app schedules local notifications on your device from the times you've logged meals. Those notifications never leave the device.
This is all the app is for — it isn't used for anything beyond showing it back to you.
Where it's stored
By default, this data lives only in local storage on your device. If you turn on"Sync with iCloud" in Settings, it's additionally stored in your own private iCloud database, using Apple's CloudKit — governed by Apple's own privacy practices and your iCloud account. We (the developer) cannot see, access, or receive this data at any point; it never passes through a server we operate, because Macro doesn't have one.
You can turn iCloud sync off at any time in Settings → iCloud & Data, and you can permanently delete all logged meals from within the app (Settings → iCloud & Data → Delete all meals), which also removes them from iCloud.
Third parties
Macro does not use any third-party analytics, advertising, or tracking SDKs. No data is sold, shared, or transmitted to any third party. The only outside service involved is Apple's iCloud/CloudKit, which is optional and under your control.
This website
This site doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and its fonts are served from the site itself rather than a third party.
Children's privacy
Macro is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, of any age — it simply stores what you choose to log, on your own device and iCloud account.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the update date at the top of this page will change too. Since the app doesn't collect contact details, we can't notify you directly — check back here if you're curious.
